Full-Time on a Rota Basis (Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 20:00, Saturday/Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00)
We are currently recruiting for a Hostel Manager to work in our Temporary Accommodation Hostels. This is a great opportunity for a housing manager or similar to further develop their housing management skills in a specialist area.
Hackney currently manage more than 30 Temporary Accommodation Hostels and we are expanding our provision to meet a growing demand. Temporary Accommodation is a dynamic and pressurised part of the Benefits and Housing Needs Service and we need willing and flexible staff to enable the service to respond to the complex needs of our customers.
We would like to recruit staff who have experience of and a good understanding of property management and maintenance, ideally in a social housing setting.
An understanding of Housing Needs processes, and the ability to communicate these to the customer is essential. Living in emergency/temporary accommodation is often a very anxious and uncertain time for customers and it is important that Hostel Managers are able to offer good advice and support and have excellent communication skills.
Whilst you will be part of a large Hostel team, we need Hostel Managers who are proactive, self-motivated and are able to work with a minimum of supervision and who can take responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of the Hostel buildings and its customers.
The role requires a range of skills including:
- – The induction of new residents
- – Managing anti -social behaviour
- – Managing vulnerable residents
- – Ensuring that residents move on in a timely manner
- – Enforcing License Agreement conditions
- – Voids management
- – Evictions
- – Property defects
- – Site checks
- – Repairs
- – Day to day supervision of Hostel Caretaker Staff
There is a very high need to ensure that standards of health and safety, including statutory requirements, are maintained and that our customers are kept safe by ensuring fire safety is prioritised.
Due to the nature of the role and its requirements, you must be able to work on a rota-basis with shifts that will include weekends and alternating weeks of early and late starting times.
You must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclose & Barring check (DBS) which is acceptable to the Council.
