Independent Board Members of the Hackney Schools Group Board

Voluntary – Sessional, Fixed Term

Hackney Learning Trust is a department within Hackney Council that is responsible for Hackney’s children’s centres, 34,268 pupils in 77 schools and early years and adult education. Our vision is to provide excellent education for every child, young person and adult learner

In recent years, Hackney schools have become some of the best state schools in the country.  Our vision is to improve the life chances of every child and learner and make Hackney the most forward looking education system in the UK.  The Hackney Schools Group Board (HSGB) is a new advisory board designed to engage all Hackney schools in system improvement and be the practical manifestation of school system leadership. Conceived as a ‘think tank’, the Board will steer local improvement in Hackney through enquiry and research, using its unique role and position in relation to the council and the school network to promote participation.

Education in Hackney has gone through a number of significant changes over the past few years and we are in a position of strength across all phases, from early years through to adult education. We are highly ambitious for Hackney’s children, young people and adult learners. A key element of our success has been the maintenance of a strong and lasting partnership between schools and the local authority.

The Hackney School’s Group Board is being set up to continue to develop strong strategic partnerships between the Local Authority and Schools. It will act as an advisory board to the Director of Education, and will engage a broad range of voices and opinions in shaping improvement in education and steering local policy.

As an independent board member you will be committed to using your experience, energy and knowledge to support the leadership of an exceptional local education system.

The membership of the Hackney Schools Group Board will comprise the widest possible expertise and professional competence across a range of different areas, including school leadership and improvement, policy making, academic research and business.

Please note – a DBS check will be required for this post.
