Our Libraries division offers a range of services to residents, including well-stocked adult and children’s sections, PCs and Wi-Fi access, information and reference e-resources, audio and e-books and a regular variety of activities and events for the whole community.
Vacancies have arisen for the position of Library Assistant, part time (18hrs) and full time (36hrs) applications are welcome . You will have experience of working within a public Library or customer focused environment and therefore possess first class customer service attributes; have a helpful, friendly manner, an understanding of differing cultural needs and a presentable appearance. As the first point of contact for visitors you will be expected to answer general queries and where necessary signpost users to other departments and organisations. You will be expected to organise and run a variety of events for adults and children. You will ensure the library is well-presented and welcoming at all times.
It is essential that you have a genuine enthusiasm for, and love of libraries and reading and enjoy working with people of all ages, especially children, from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Good IT and verbal communication skills are essential and knowledge of key issues surrounding the library service would also be desirable. Promotion of our services, events and stock will be an active and integral part of your duties. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required.
