Hackney is one of Britain’s most exciting and fastest-changing boroughs. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. The challenges that have arisen over the last two years have intensified the need for action and we are determined to rebuild Hackney for, and with, our diverse communities.

Are you passionate about connecting communities with museum collections?

Hackney Museum is the community history museum for the London Borough of Hackney. Our popular and well loved galleries are now over 20 years old and we are entering an exciting phase to reimagine our small but pioneering museum, where people are at its centre.

We are seeking a Museum Officer that can actively contribute to the development of this National Lottery Heritage funded project, working within a small yet agile museum team.

As the Project Museum Officer you will be engaging with young and older people and facilitating in-person conversations with Hackney’s diverse range of communities. You will co-curate exhibitions that can help to improve collections knowledge, and build on our collaborative practice to inform a more sustainable approach to co-curated content. This work will actively inform the future design of Hackney Museum and underpin how we reimagine the service.

You will be able to work to tight deadlines with a passion for collaborative working with strong engagement skills and be able to co-develop with audiences of all ages. You should have experience of working with museum collections, especially in creating exhibitions and developing engaging content for in person and online audiences.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone keen to build on their collaborative practice that is explorative and creative, using your initiative to solve challenges and develop innovative solutions in a supportive team.
