We’re looking for a Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our team. At Hackney, we’re very proud of our achievements in tech — we built a large, multi-account, multi-OU AWS platform in less than a year — but we want to achieve a lot more.

You’ll help us build out the AWS platform to assist recovery after the cyber-attack of 2020. There’s a considerable range of work on offer including a whole new hub-and-spoke network architecture, new accounts, automation and backups and standards. You’ll also assist other teams with application recovery and build new applications in house, such as the data platform and Modern Tools for Housing.

Now’s a particularly exciting time to join us as we begin work on significant areas such as alerts and resolution, disaster recovery and iterating shared services. We work on an evolving platform-as-a-service as opposed to projects and our team has a wide range of skills and experience, from senior engineers with more than 10 years’ experience through to apprentices.

There’s a big emphasis on learning here — we set aside 10% of our time for non-core work and education. As a public-sector organisation we can also offer a considerable range of free courses and sponsorship for your certifications, such as AWS Solution Architect.

 

In terms of experience, you’ll be an expert in managing continuous delivery systems on AWS as well as implementing security controls, governance processes and compliance validation. You’ll be able to implement highly available, scalable and self-healing systems on the AWS platform and you’ll be familiar with relevant professional standards and policies. A good knowledge of cloud networking and Palo Alto Networks would be desirable.

We’re also looking for candidates who can work across a broad range of complex activities while acting as a reliable, proactive leader in the team. You’ll have good communication skills and be able to collaborate with a wide range of people.
