Hackney Council is seeking a senior communications professional with a passion for creating, writing, planning, problem-solving and influencing to join its multi-award-winning communications team in order to make a difference to the lives of Hackney’s diverse communities at a critical and exciting time as we rebuild a healthier, fairer and greener borough after the coronavirus pandemic.

Hackney is one of the UK’s best-regarded local authorities: efficient, high-performing and innovative, and with some of the top services, schools and public spaces in the country.

It has been an extremely difficult two years for the Council, but also an inspiring one. Communications has been at the forefront of the local response to the coronavirus pandemic — the greatest challenge of our generation — and as we move from the emergency phase and seek to rebuild a better Hackney out of the crisis, communicating with our residents remains as critical as ever, whether that’s: signposting residents to our many services and functions; improving how we speak to and listen to our residents; managing relationships with local, regional and national journalists; or producing and delivering compelling, imaginative communications campaigns to deliver key messages, objectives and priorities.

You will understand the power of words to influence, persuade and inform; you will be an expert in imaginative and innovative marketing techniques and communications strategies; and have a solid background in delivering outstanding, integrated communications campaigns and plans on time, and within budget.

You will work quickly and accurately under pressure, creating and delivering communications content across a range of multi-media channels; you will provide informed and robust public relations and reputation-management advice to senior leaders in a fast-paced and evolving working environment; and you will be an expert strategist who delivers results and meets objectives.

Does this sound like you? Apply now to work in one of the best communications teams in London. If successful, you will join a supportive, high-performing team with lots of development and training opportunities.

If you would like to discuss any elements of the role, please contact: jane.ball@hackney.gov.uk
