Travel to Work

Season Ticket Loan

All permanent and fixed-term Council employees can apply for a season ticket loan.

The loan can help you save on travel costs a season ticket could cost less than buying weekly or monthly – which is helpful if you are working in Hackney most days. A season ticket is usually the same as paying for 10 months, rather than a full year’s travel.

Your loan repayments are spread evenly through your salary over 10 months.

Participants in our bike-to-work scheme can also apply for a season ticket loan.

Cycle to work scheme through Cyclescheme

The Cycle to Work Scheme offers a cost-effective way to buy your own bike and accessories. All you have to do is choose a bike or accessories from an approved supplier and pay the cost back through deductions from your salary. When signing up, you save on tax and National Insurance, and your monthly payments are spread over a 12-month period for your convenience.

  • Cyclescheme can save you at least 25% on a bike for work and accessories, like a helmet, lock and lights
  • Already got a bike? You can get accessory-only packages, too

How it works

Choose a bike from an approved supplier and the Council buys it and loans it to you. You then take a ‘salary sacrifice’ in return for the loan of the bike across a year.

The maximum amount available including both bike and equipment is £3,000.
