The London Borough of Hackney is seeking a skilled Building Surveyor to join our Corporate Building Maintenance & Compliance team to deliver an effective, reliable, customer-focused service to the Council with a focus on effective maintenance and maximising the availability of the Council properties. The priority will be on the Local Authority Housing Fund (LAHF) Temporary Accommodation (TA) sites, which are properties bought back by the Council for use across the TA portfolio.
The role will be to undertake the supervision and management of repair and renewal works to the TA properties across the Borough. You will be expected to assist in undertaking condition surveys of a wide variety of properties.
You will assist in maintaining robust programmes for ensuring that all TA properties are compliant with current statutory regulations and for managing the work of the wider team to ensure that all Council buildings are maintained to agreed standards.
You will support the Strategic Property Services team in providing building surveying and inspection advice in relation to the assessment of contractual obligations and preparation of schedules of condition and dilapidations.
You will provide expert and technical advice on the design, condition, capacity, suitability and statutory compliance monitoring of building installations, advising Council stakeholders. You will also provide expert technical reports, appraisals, measurements, costings, and estimates for various surveys, including maintenance repairs, voids, disrepair, and minor projects.
Using your building knowledge and a high level of technical expertise, you will be working within a team carrying out a critical role, ensuring that Hackney Council can deliver its services and meet corporate objectives across the corporate estate. The estate comprises circa 600 mixed use properties across a diverse sector, including commercial offices, libraries, community halls, temporary accommodation and the voluntary sector.
It is expected that you will have a sound and detailed knowledge of Building Regulations , procurement routes, construction practices, building contracts and legal compliance. You are required to have a relevant degree or equivalent in Land Management/Surveying, Construction and Building strategy formulation, development and implementation (or similar). It is desirable, but not imperative, that you have a qualification with The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
