Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.
Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.
The Communications and Engagement and Young Hackney services are looking for a dedicated digital communications professional with a passion for great content to join our team.
As Digital Communications Officer, you will provide support to the Young Hackney service with digital communications and campaigns, ensuring we are talking to and engaging our young residents and parents on the channels they use most, with content that resonates with them.
You will support the Young Hackney service, delivering content and campaigns to promote the service offering and ensure young people get the most out of it. Time is split across digital channels, with a particular focus on social media (TikTok and Instagram), digital advertising, web and email marketing. Evaluation is also key in understanding how our communications perform, so there will also be an element of reporting to the role.
You will bring expertise and creativity to the team to develop Young Hackney’s channels. You will be proactive and quick to learn new skills, able to keep on top of a complex and constantly changing landscape.
You must be able to work with a diverse set of stakeholders, from politicians to our young residents to senior officers, with the ability to sell-in ideas to meet our communication objectives, in particular for video content.
You must have great content creation skills, from capture to design and editing using specialist software including Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, good web management and IT skills including Google Suite, in particular Slides, Docs and Sheets. You must have a good technical understanding of all relevant digital channels and their formats and audiences.
If you would like to discuss any elements of the role, please contact digital.communications@hackney.gov.uk
Young Hackney is Hackney Council’s dedicated youth service for young people aged 6 to 19, up to 25 with additional needs. From adventure playgrounds to innovative youth hubs, Young Hackney is at the forefront of youth work in London.
