We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to become part of the Highways Team. The Highways Team within Streetscene requires a Drainage Engineer to join the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA). You will assist in the delivery of the LLFA statutory duties and functions under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the Flood Risk Regulations 2009.
This post may suit a recent graduate with a degree in civil/environmental engineering/science. You will have relevant work experience in a similar role in a consultancy or a local authority environment, this is preferred but not essential.
Under the responsibility of the LLFA you will be required to undertake a statutory consultee role providing technical advice on surface water drainage to local planning authorities on developments in Hackney. You will prepare and maintain the strategy for local flood risk management, coordinating views and activity with other Risk Management Authorities (RMA) and communities through consultation and engagement.
Day to day you will carry out works including funding applications to manage local flood risks, maintain the flood assets register, investigate significant local flooding incidents and preparation of Section 19 reports, whilst undertaking SuDS design and supervision of construction works.
The focus of the role is to create a safer, healthier and more sustainable environment. The holder of this role will also be instrumental in helping us deliver on our commitments as the Lead Local Flood Authority.
The role will be rewarding and challenging, coordinating with other departments, planners, developers etc. and providing advice and guidance to others, both inside and outside of the organisation. Support and guidance will be provided all the way, confident that the work you help to achieve will benefit the local environment and residents of Hackney.
The applicant must have confidence in dealing with the public and be capable of communicating complex technical matters clearly. Effective communication skills are essential to be able to provide careful and considered responses. You should be computer literate with experience of using spreadsheets and AutoCAD, however, training will be provided.
