We invite applications for two Independent Audit Committee Members to join our Audit Committee. This is an opportunity to contribute to promoting excellence in risk management and financial reporting within our authority.
As an Independent Member, you will participate actively in Audit Committee meetings, bringing additional integrity, objectivity, and impartiality to our decision-making. While you will be a non-voting member, your contributions will be vital in overseeing internal and external audit arrangements, reviewing financial statements, and assessing risk management.
Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in audit and financial management. We prefer individuals who have lived or worked within the London Borough of Hackney or have a connection to the area, but this is not essential. Candidates must adhere to the Nolan Principles of Standards in Public Life, which guide our conduct.
Commitment:
- Meetings: Five times a year, typically January, April, July, October and one other.
- Preparation: Reading agendas and related documents in advance of meetings.
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates are ineligible if they:
- Are, or have been in the last five years, a member or officer of Hackney Council
- Have close personal connections to current members or officers.
- Have criminal unspent convictions or are undischarged bankrupt.
- Have significant business dealings with the Council or connections to political groups.
Successful candidates will receive an allowance of £134.84 per meeting.
If you’re passionate about promoting good governance and integrity in public service, we encourage you to apply. For more information and to view the Audit Committee’s terms of reference, please visit our website.
