Role: Specialist Teacher (Integrated SEND Service, Children and Education)

Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR2 + SEN Allowance

Location: Hackney Education

Reporting to: Specialist Area Lead

Hackney Education is seeking an inspiring and strategic leader to join our Integrated SEND Service as a Locality Lead Specialist Teacher. This is a pivotal role where you will work at a strategic level within a locality multi-disciplinary team (MDT), making data-informed decisions to guide evidence-based intervention and support settings. You will lead a dedicated team of Specialist Teachers, setting a vision for exemplary practice and professional development.

Our key priority is to improve the life chances of every child, young person and learner: making Hackney the most forward looking education providers in the UK. We are committed to ensuring that our schools and settings create a sense of belonging for all children, no matter what their special educational needs or disability. We want children and young people to be able to grow, learn, develop and achieve –and offer one of the best places for colleagues to work and thrive in our education system.

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership by collaborating with multidisciplinary partners to oversee locality-level monitoring and tracking, ensuring targeted support is effectively triaged for individual pupils and schools. You will also manage and coach a team of Specialist Teachers, maintaining high service standards through observation and feedback. You will maintain a direct specialist teaching allocation to model outstanding planning and delivery alongside school colleagues, while actively contributing to the Senior Management Team to drive innovation and inclusive practice projects across the borough.

To be successful in this role, you will hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and possess a specialist qualification such as NASENCO, NPQSENCO, or a Post Graduate/MA in SEND.

You will bring:

  • Proven success in a leadership role within mainstream or specialist educational settings.
  • Extensive experience in successful teaching across various phases and settings.
  • Experience in line management and the professional development of teachers.

This is an exceptional opportunity to influence the landscape of SEND inclusion at a system level. If you are a resilient, creative, and credible leader with a strong sense of purpose, we encourage you to apply. Join us in making a lasting impact on the lives of children and families in Hackney.

If you have any questions or would like an informal discussion about the role, please contact Lydia Scaletti, Specialist Area Lead (lydia.Scaletti@hackney.gov.uk)
