Hackney’s multi-award winning  Markets , Shop Fronts and Street Trading Service manage and operate all the Markets and Street Trading activities within the Borough. Our street markets and trading sites reflect the borough’s vibrant & diverse communities and cultures, with 6 historic and successful markets dating back hundreds of years offering a wide range of quality goods, value for money and a meeting place for those much needed social interactions.  Our markets and street trading sites are community assets that drive and support local and inclusive economies and employment opportunities,  food growing projects, small businesses, start-ups and festivals.

As a leading operator in our field, Hackney’s Markets Service deliver a best in class service providing innovative ways to develop and operate markets and street trading activities access the borough.This is an exciting time to join the markets and street trading team following continuous growth for the past 3 years, a strong Covid recovery and recognised nationally as a beacon borough who is leading the way for other local authorities in delivering successful markets and street trading operations.  We are expanding and growing our portfolio and playing our part in increasing local employment opportunities and driving our local and inclusive economies.

Your passion for providing the very best customer service, excellent organisational and common sense will facilitate your goal to provide a right first time front line service to all of our Licence holders and ensure the effective set up and dismantling of the boroughs Markets and Street Trading function in a timely, safe and consistent manner every week. The role requires a lot of manual handling and heavy lifting so safety around these aspects is vital. It is essential that all markets are set up/ dismantled on time so additional work may be required at times when resources are limited.

You must be flexible for work in the week (very rare) and have the ability to work every weekend to support markets and events and be comfortable with working in all weathers and be able to  work under pressure and to a time scale delivering a high level of customer service at all times. You should be able to use your own initiative, hold a strong team ethic  and love putting your organisational and ability to work at pace to good use. Above all, you need a ‘can do’ attitude and a desire to deliver an exceptional level of service and make Hackney a better place for our businesses , residents and visitors.

Please note this role includes regular work every Saturday.
