Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.
Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.
Hackney Council’s Building Maintenance Teams work streams are rapidly expanding, we are looking for qualified operatives in a number of trades to increase our direct workforce. We are looking for individuals to help us maintain the properties we look after. Your role will be to help make sure these homes are safe and maintained to a high standard for the people who live in them. You will be working on properties across Hackney, some of these homes will be occupied but you will also be helping us prepare others for their new occupants. The roles we have available are:
A reasonable level of fitness is required as some of the work is physically demanding, you may need to climb ladders and lift heavy objects. You will need to apply common sense to your duties, be able to manage your time and take pride in your work. In return you will get great opportunities for training, generous annual leave and an attractive pay package on a performance related pay scheme.
You will benefit from experience in repairs and maintenance and have a good level of customer service. You will need to hold a full UK manual driving licence (with no more than three penalty points) as you will be provided with a work vehicle. To be able to do this work, you need to have a NVQ or City & Guilds qualification and/or relevant experience in your specific trade. You will also need to have IT skills as you may be using a hand held device to record your work.
