Are you an engaging facilitator with experience of delivering workshops for primary school aged children in a museum setting? If you thrive in a fast paced, team environment that values collaboration and creative problem solving, then this could be the job for you! Hackney Museum is recruiting a permanent, full time Schools Officer. You would be joining the small yet ambitious team at a very exciting time of change and redevelopment thanks to a £2.9m redevelopment project.
The Schools Officer will ensure the continuation of the schools programme, during the service’s transformation through new outreach sessions, supporting the annual Black History Schools programme and assisting the Museum Learning Producer in the development of schools sessions in response to the museum’s new galleries, opening in 2026/27.
The role of Schools Officer is mainly delivery-focused. Our sessions develop pupils’ sense of Hackney through the museum’s collections with person-centred storytelling that reflect the Museum’s key narrative of migration and settlement using enquiry-based learning. The Schools Officer is also responsible for the booking, administration and promotion of Hackney Museum schools programme and general administrative support for the museum service.
The successful candidate will have a proactive and creative attitude, excellent organisational skills, a keenness to learn and develop local history knowledge, with the ability to contribute to a fast-paced team and inclusive approach to working with a diverse school population.
The role will be based at Hackney Museum, located in Hackney Central, E8. The role supports flexible working within the needs of the service (e.g. core delivery of school sessions during the school day). Occasional evening and weekend working as required.
