Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.

Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition.

We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.

The Senior Engineer (NRSWA) is responsible for overseeing the Network team’s
NRSWA & TMA inspection programme, which covers visual inspections of utility
works within a defined area in Hackney.

– You will manage the inspectors to ensure they undertake all NRSWA and TMA related inspections, ensuring a consistent approach to the assessment and recording of outcomes in line with relevant industry standards.

– You will be responsible for creating new inspection routes and planning inspections, including the production and review of inspection rotas.

– As the senior officer, you will disseminate relevant knowledge and guidance to the NRSWA inspectors.

– You will monitor the inspection programme and ensure staff performance, reviewing and modifying the inspection programme using a performance dataset approach.

– You will produce periodic performance reports, reporting to the Group Engineer – Street Management and other service managers on performance, recommending monitoring surveys and remedial works.

About the team:

You will work along with the Streetworks Permitting Team, reporting to the Group
Engineer – Street Management, and will be working as part of Hackney’s Networks Team, within the Streetscene section.

You will be primarily based in the Hackney Service Centre, although there will be an element of hybrid working.

Although the team’s main functions are to ensure the coordination of all activities, along with inspecting and ensuring the performance of all works promoters comply with current legislation and CoP, the team also deals with Highways Act 1980 and RTRA related work functions.

You will also be working with other Council teams from time-to-time, including the Parks & Green Spaces, Estates, finance and procurement teams. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in Streetworks.

About you;

You will be currently working in the Streetworks industry, with a good working
knowledge of current legislation, have a proactive approach to problem solving and working as part of a successful team. Ideally with supervisory experience within a local authority environment.
