Make a Real Impact in the Heart of Hackney
Love food, community, and making a difference? So do we.
Hackney is one of the most exciting, diverse, and fast-paced boroughs in London. From the bustling markets of Ridley Road to the world-class eateries of Shoreditch, our Environmental Health team is at the heart of it all. We are looking for two Senior / Environmental Health Officers to join our mission to keep Hackney safe, healthy, and thriving.
Why Choose Hackney?
Whether you are just starting your career or you’re a seasoned pro looking for your next big challenge, Hackney offers an environment where you can truly grow.
- For New Professionals: Just finished your CIEH EHP Portfolio or eligible for the Register of Environmental Health Practitioners? We offer a supportive launchpad to kickstart your career.
- For Experienced Officers: If you’re looking for stimulation, complexity, and the chance to lead on strategic policies, you’ll find it here.
The Role: Beyond the Checklist
This isn’t just about inspections; it’s about people. You will manage a dynamic caseload covering food safety, standards, health & safety, and infectious disease control.
You will thrive here if you are:
- A Natural Communicator: You can build trust with our incredibly diverse local businesses and residents.
- A Problem Solver: You stay cool under pressure, navigating sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.
- Outcome-Driven: You are self-motivated and love seeing the tangible results of your work.
- Strategically Minded: We need someone with an analytical mind and experience in enforcement and compliance. You should be a strategic thinker, keen to develop policies that support our ambitions for the borough.
What You’ll Bring
- An appropriate Environmental Health qualification and evidence of meeting the FSA FLCoP Competency Framework.
- A commercial mindset and an eye for detail; someone who understands the importance of accurate record-keeping and effective administrative systems.
- The flexibility to participate in our 24/7 out-of-hours service (which includes an on-call allowance).
- A “can-do” attitude and a passion for public health.
