Hackney Council is looking for someone who is analytical with a good attention to detail to manage our energy accounts. As a Utilities Account Officer, you will be part of a team processing our energy bills, managing queries and looking for ways to drive down our Carbon emissions within our Schools and Council buildings. Your work will play an important role in making Hackney Council greener and more efficient. You will be working in new, collaborative ways across departments and with partners in other organisations.

You will receive utility bills (gas, electricity, and water) to process, complete journal recharges and manage payments to suppliers. You will also respond to queries about utility costs and consumptions as well as supporting metering projects. You will also analyse data and be involved in utility procurement for the corporate contracts and reporting.

There are opportunities to be involved with energy efficiency, advanced metering and renewable projects. You should have experience of the utilities sector and understand account billing procedures. You should understand environmental issues and the principles of energy management.

To thrive in this role, you should enjoy working in a high-pressure environment. You will need to follow strict procedures in your work and manage workloads to meet tight deadlines. You must be familiar with a range of IT and utilities data packages, particularly Word and Excel and a financial management system like CedAr and Sigma for utility management. We will also need you to get involved with some administration, arranging meetings, taking minutes and preparing documents.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, third parties, contractors, engineers, Internal budget/stake holders, schools, other internal departments etc, is a key function within this position. You must be experienced in proactively engaging and communicating with anyone and demonstrate high ability to attention to detail.
