In Hackney, Youth Justice Services are provided in two multi-agency, multi-professional teams one of which is co-located with our Community Gangs Team. Both Youth Justice teams hold statutory responsibilities for young people who have offended. Our practice is child centred and relational. We are committed to developing a Systemic, Trauma Informed, Anti-Racist and Restorative (STAR-R) practice model. Hackney YJS has been rated ‘Good’ following a joint inspection and we have aspirations to deliver outstanding services to children.

Under the leadership of a Youth Justice Team Leader, you will contribute to the overall effectiveness of the service by applying a persistent approach in assessment, intervention, court and custody activities with young offenders and those at a high risk of offending. You will lead on delivery of high quality assessments and evidenced-based/outcome focussed interventions and programmes to ensure that young people have effective plans in place in accordance with statutory requirements and the National Standards for Youth Justice. You will be committed to a reduction in youth crime and improved community safety

You will work closely with other highly skilled professionals and partner agencies and have a sound knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance. You will be supported and encouraged to apply theory and research in front-line practice, building on a strong track record of service delivery and innovation within the service. Dynamic, innovative, committed and passionate, you’ll bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to the challenge of working with vulnerable young people and their families. This role provides an opportunity to shape Youth Justice interventions, at a high profile local authority.

Candidates must have a relevant qualification at degree level or equivalent, i.e. social work, probation or youth work, substantial experience in a comparable setting and have evidence of continuing professional development. 

An enhanced DBS check will also be required for this role.
