Permanent – Full Time (36 hours per week)

Find yourself in London’s best borough

Hackney captures everything great about London in seven square miles. We’re proud of our reputation for innovation, inclusivity and diversity.

Hackney is a proud, diverse, and ambitious borough, committed to improving the lives of our residents. We’re looking for a bold, strategic leader to drive one of the Council’s most impactful services: preventing homelessness, supporting our most vulnerable residents, and ensuring people receive the financial help they need. As Assistant Director, you’ll shape the delivery of the Mayor’s priorities and lead a wide ranging portfolio including Housing Options, Homelessness Assessment, Temporary Accommodation, Housing Supply, Rough Sleeping, Supported Accommodation, Benefits Assessment and Council Tax Reduction.

With a workforce of around 270 staff and a budget of £70m, you’ll champion innovation, continuous improvement and high quality customer service. You’ll oversee the administration of the Homelessness Reduction Act, manage the Council’s Housing Register, and ensure our benefits and financial support services are accurate, efficient and accessible. You’ll work closely with Members, partners and communities to create strong prevention pathways and reduce the need for temporary accommodation.

This is a high profile leadership role that offers the chance to influence policy, shape services and represent the Council regionally and nationally. You’ll drive change, build strong teams, ensure robust financial and performance management, and help deliver a fairer, more inclusive borough.

We’re seeking an experienced senior manager with in-depth knowledge of housing, homelessness and benefits legislation, and a proven ability to lead large, diverse teams in a fast paced environment. If you’re passionate about delivering meaningful change and empowering residents through high quality services, we’d love to hear from you.
