Hackney Council is looking for people with administrative experience to join our private-sector housing team. As a Business and Technical Support Officer, you will join a team that provides support for private sector housing officers delivering regulation and enforcement services for Hackney’s private housing sector. Housing is a top priority for us, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of our innovative new approach.

One in three households in Hackney now rents in the private sector. Housing across London is experiencing unprecedented pressure, with rents rocketing as demand increases. Hackney’s Mayor has pledged to tackle poor conditions and management concerns. We are getting tough on rogue landlords and making agents fulfil their duties using new powers and expanded licensing schemes.

We need people like you – keen to make a difference, who understand the impact housing issues have on the health and well-being of residents. You will help us respond to our customer’s needs, providing services online to make our response more accessible and efficient. We will also focus on gathering data to help us target enforcement.

The outcome of this work can transform lives. Alongside enforcement, our active grants programme allows disabled and vulnerable residents to remain independent in their own homes. We help prevent homelessness by assisting tenants to stay in their homes. Above all, you will be part of our team working to ensure private sector housing is safe and well-managed for the people living there.

You will join a team providing comprehensive technical and administrative support to our private sector housing service, including initial receipt and checking of online property licensing applications before they are allocated for processing.

We need people who are organised and accurate in their work. People are able to take initiative and prioritise their own workload to meet deadlines. You will be the first point of contact for our service users and should have a good understanding of customer care. Familiarity with a range of IT packages is essential as is a willingness to undertake any relevant training.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

When applying, there will be a number of questions relating to the post on the application form. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge and experience.

We will not accept applications where Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used to assist with completing the competency questions or any part of the application form.

This application process replaces a supporting statement.

Closing date for applications: 22 September 2024 (22:59 pm)

Interview date: To be confirmed
