Hackney is London’s most diverse, dynamic neighbourhood. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital’s finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

Hackney Council is looking for an individual with good finance skills to join their Care Charging Team As a public sector organisation, we are facing big financial challenges over the coming years. You will play an important part in minimising the impact of this on the people who rely on our services.

Our Care Charging Team assesses people receiving chargeable care to determine their ability to contribute to the costs involved. This is done by working with residents, their families, care professionals and other agencies. This broad approach ensures people who need our services are fully supported, properly assessed, billed and monitored.

We now need a Care Charging Officer to join the team. You will be responsible for carrying out financial assessments as well as our other work, including refunds, billing cycles, reviews and debt recovery. These roles present an exciting opportunity for people with financial skills and an interest in social care to develop their experience in care charging policy.

You will need a general knowledge of welfare benefits as they apply to those in receipt of social care. You must have previous experience in a finance role, great numeracy skills and be diligent about producing accurate work. Day to day, you will be using a number of IT systems including CedAR and Mosaic, our social care database.

To thrive in this role, you should be able to manage your own workload and be able to keep calm under pressure. You should have excellent customer skills to deal with enquiries on a daily basis. You should be comfortable talking with a variety of people including residents, social care professionals, solicitors and others.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

When applying, there will be a number of questions relating to the post on the application form. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge and experience.

We will not accept applications where Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used to assist with completing the competency questions or any part of the application form.

This application process replaces a supporting statement.

Closing date for applications:16 October 2024  (22.59 pm)

Interview date: TBC

In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
