12 months Fixed Term / Secondment Opportunity (possibility of extending)

The CGT is made up of partnership colleagues from the Probation Service, Police, DWP, YOT, Prevent, Housing and other third party organisations. The aim of the team is to reduce serious youth and gang Violence, therefore excellent team working and communications skills are required for this role. You will be familiar with a multi-agency / partnership approach to work, promoting integration and multidisciplinary working. You will take part in group workshops; panel, intelligence andmulti-agency meetings and more.

You must have a sound working knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and guidance including Crime and Disorder Act 1988, Children Act 1989 & 2004, Crime and Policing Act 2006 and 2017, Pan London Safeguarding guidance, information sharing legislation, ability to make informed and defensible decisions about relevance and proportionality. To work within the requirements of the Data Protection Act and GDPR.

The Hackney Community Gangs Team (CGT) is at the cutting edge of working with key stakeholders to reduce gang related violence in Hackney.

Your work will be event and intelligence lead, with a manageable caseload, you will be dealing with critical incidents, mediation and problem solving, with the freedom to plan and manage your own caseload and there will be scope for you to use your initiative to bring forward innovative ideas and develop your own projects. You will use sensitive and confidential information accordingly, adhere to information sharing agreements and will be able to demonstrate evidence of report writing and completing risk and vulnerability assessments.

You will have experience and knowledge of Safeguarding Procedures, knowledge of gang reduction initiatives and issues impacting upon gang involvement. You will have an understanding of the prevalence and wider harm of gang violence and cross borough issues. Experience of working with gangs and serious youth violence, youth justice systems, vulnerable young people and adults or emotional and challenging young people and their families is essential. You will have experience of identifying and managing risk by young people and adults in highly complex situations and propose appropriate arrangements for safeguarding and protection of the public, with a wider understanding of vulnerability and protective factors in families and communities affected by gang activity. You will work in partnership with colleagues to facilitate or participate with intervention and prevention workshops in the community.
