We are looking for a new Equality, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EEDIB) Officer. The salary is dependent on experience and how meets the Person Specifications

Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a robust set of shared values. Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition.

We are leading the way on essential work, such as our fight for equity in Hackney, with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life, including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.

The EEDIB Officer role sits within the Strategy, Equality & Community Partnerships, Chief Executive’s Directorate. The service is central to supporting and driving the Council’s commitment to Equality, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EEDIB).

This is more than a job; it’s an opportunity to translate our corporate EEDIB strategy into tangible results that benefit every member of our workforce and the diverse residents we serve. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting and driving the Council’s commitment to the EEDIB agenda across our workforce, service delivery, and community engagement.

You will translate our corporate EEDIB strategy into deliverable actions, ensuring full statutory compliance and embedding inclusive practice into the Council’s culture and decision-making. If you have an unwavering passion for advancing equalities and the skills to manage complex, high-profile initiatives, this is an excellent opportunity to make a tangible difference to our workforce and the people of Hackney.

We are looking for a candidate with both the strategic vision and the practical project management rigour to deliver real-world impact. The requirements of the role include:

– Strategic Project Management Excellence: Accountability for supporting and leading complex, cross-cutting projects stemming from the Council’s Equality Plan. You must possess organisational skills to manage work streams and strategic projects, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of time, cost, and quality. Your ability to coordinate input from multiple departments and external partners will be key to success.

– Driving Anti-Racist and Proactive Equalities: Demonstrable, in-depth knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).

This involves providing high-level advice to managers, reviewing Equality Impact Assessments (EqIAs), and leading on data analysis (quantitative and qualitative) to identify patterns of inequality. Crucially, you must be driven by a passion to embed practical anti-racist principles and equality into every facet of the Council’s work.

– Making a Difference through Engagement: Championing ways of working that actively embed the lived experience of diverse groups into policy and service delivery. This includes maintaining our virtual network of key stakeholders, including staff networks, community partners, and interest groups, to ensure our priorities are informed directly by our residents and colleagues.

As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our organisation’s goals. If you want to work in a place where you can represent our values and help us achieve the best for our residents, please click the apply button below. We operate a fair and open anonymous selection process.

Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs. To proceed with your application, you will need to create an account and submit your application. As part of the application process, you will need to complete several competency-based questions.

These questions allow you to demonstrate your suitability for the role and provide examples of your skills, knowledge, and experience outlined in the job description. We understand the benefits of using AI in the workplace.
