Are you a skilled musician with a love of teaching?

Are you confident teaching across a wide range of age groups e.g. primary and secondary?

Are you organised, flexible and reliable? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Hackney Music Service is looking appoint highly skilled and experienced instrumental / vocal tutors from across a range of musical genres and instruments to join its music tutor panel.

The role will include teaching children and young people of differing ages and skill levels, primarily, in small and large groups in school settings. We are particularly looking for music tutors who can inspire and enthuse young people to develop a love of music, and who can effectively plan for musical progression.

We are seeking dedicated Music Tutors to join our team and support the Music Service’s local strategy for music education across the borough. In this role, you will deliver high-quality instrumental and vocal tuition to both individuals and groups, providing a varied programme that covers technique, musicianship, and creativity while exposing learners to diverse musical cultures. You will play a vital role in raising achievement by preparing pupils for GCSE, A-level, and graded examinations, as well as signposting them to ensembles and holiday courses to support their long-term progression.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a professional and flexible approach, working closely with school staff and the Music Service management team to ensure strategic musical development. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate registers and records of work, attending orientation meetings, and contributing to the vibrant cultural life of schools through concerts and performance events. All tutors are expected to adhere to Hackney’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion policies and must complete annual mandatory training in safeguarding and data awareness to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Representation: We would welcome applications from musicians of black and global majority backgrounds as well as musicians / music tutors who are currently under-represented in the music tutor workforce.
