Hackney is London’s most diverse, dynamic neighbourhood. Stretching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it’s an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. In addition, it has more green spaces than any other inner London borough, some of the capital’s finest schools, superb transport connections, excellent public services, and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors.
We also have some of the capital’s most exciting clubs, bars and music venues, but these come with a number of challenges, including compliance with noise, artificial lighting, smoke and licensing & planning contraventions. Our Environmental Protection Team is working hard to tackle these issues and right now we’re looking for an Officer to join this team.
In this role you’ll respond to complaints about noise & nuisances in our commercial sector. Managing cases from the initial complaint through to investigation, resolution and, if necessary, preparation for court proceedings. When you’re not visiting sites you’ll be producing reports and responding to general and Members enquiries. With a diploma or degree in Environmental Health or its equivalent, you’ll be up to date with current legislation and best practice in the field of environmental protection. Enthusiastic about the potential of the service we provide, you’ll be ready to take a pioneering approach to developing and delivering new initiatives to support our work.
Enjoy a superb work/life balance and an outstanding range of benefits
We offer outstanding benefits, including the flexibility of hybrid working, a generous holiday allowance of 28 paid days, rising to 33 days (after 5 years) and membership of the excellent Local Government Pension Scheme. You’ll also enjoy a wide range of learning and development opportunities and a comprehensive range of other benefits including childcare vouchers, a staff pool bike scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, and discounts at leisure centres, restaurants, shops and other local establishments.
As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our goals as an organisation.
