Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.
Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.
Our Public Health Service is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of our diverse communities in both Hackney and the City of London. We work collaboratively and creatively to address health inequalities and create a healthier future for all.
The City of London Corporation shares this commitment to community and sustainability. As the governing body of the Square Mile, they play a crucial role in supporting a thriving London and contributing to a flourishing society.

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Public Health Practitioner to help reduce health inequalities, promote better health and wellbeing, and lead on delivery of oral health and nutrition programmes and projects.
As a Senior Public Health Practitioner, you will work closely with internal teams in early years and education and with external partners across the early years settings, schools, voluntary sector and local residents to lead the efficient delivery of the health promotion programmes.
You will manage logistics, from supply chains, monitoring and evaluation required in the effective delivery of the health promotion programmes.
You will be comfortable engaging with diverse populations and can adapt your communication style to meet the needs of different cultural groups.
As a Senior Public Health Practitioner, you will use a data driven approach to ensure that the health promotion programmes reach populations that most need them. You will be able to work flexibly, adapt to the evolving demands of the role, and be comfortable managing tasks both independently and within various teams.
In order to be considered for this vital position you will need relevant qualifications and on-the-job experience. This means that as well as having a degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent level of public health experience you will possess an understanding of basic community engagement, behaviour change and public health principles.
You must also have the tact, compassion and expertise to work in a diverse community where health inequalities persist. You will possess an understanding of systems and practices within Local Authorities, early years education and the voluntary and community sectors.
You will have experience with project management, delivery and measuring impact. You will have gained solid experience of tackling health inequality and a proven track record in taking the initiative and leading on work – both autonomously and within teams. You will possess excellent communication skills both verbal and written and tailoring key public health messages to meet the needs of diverse populations.
You will have demonstrated a commitment to ongoing professional development. Commissioning experience is desirable. It is expected you will be working at Public Health Skills and Careers Framework Levels 4 to 5.
Please note that a DBS check will be required for this post.
