Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.
Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.
Hackney Council is looking for a motivated and detail-focused Technical Licensing Officer to join our Private Sector Housing Licensing Service.

– Provide advice and support to landlords, agents, tenants and residents
– Manage enquiries through duty services and shared inboxes
– Maintain accurate records, databases and statutory registers
– Support compliance, enforcement and licensing decision-making
– Contribute to service improvements and digital processes
As you progress to SO1 level, you will take on more complex casework, technical decision-making, quality assurance and mentoring responsibilities.
We are looking for someone with:
– Experience in housing, licensing, compliance, regulation or similar environments
– Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
– Excellent communication and customer service skills
– Experience managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
– A commitment to delivering high-quality public services
We offer professional development and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference within one of London’s most dynamic boroughs.
Join us and help shape safer, better housing across Hackney.
